Fantastic experience: Taylor was very patient and meticulous in helping me plan my first-ever solo trip to the South Island of NZ. Through her guidance, I knew what to do throughout the trip and did not have to worry too much about the uncertainties. Even though the trip was a little costly, the experience was well thought out, especially regarding my accommodation as I enjoyed all my stays. It was a wonderful road trip. Fantastic experience: We just got home from a 14 day trip to New Zealand, and our experience was excellent! Taylor was great, helped us build our entire trip exactly the way we envisioned it. All of our accomodations were excellent, transports and bookings were on time, and improvising after we had to make some adjustments due to the weather went seamlessly. We had a great time, highly recommend this company!

Fantastic experience: My friends and I had a wonderful holiday during our 10 days self drive North Island which was designed by Jaydene of First Light Travel. Although I have visited some of the places before, the second time around was more enjoyable and relaxed due to the perfect planning. Also what I did not get to do then, I could do now like the Hangi dinner which was glorious. All the hotels and attractions designated were good and also ready to receive us. Thank you very much Jaydene.

Positive experience: Firstlight travel was good to work with. Our agent was courteous and seemed well informed of New Zealand. However, the tight times between stops and stayovers became very problematic when flights, availability or weather weren't exactly cooperating. If FirstLight Travel is that experienced in the vacation scheduling trips of NZ, they should have been more upfront with this customer concerning delays and [their] consequenses.

Fantastic experience: We appreciated Henry's work to get us to see as much of the south island of New zealand as possible in the short time we had available. He lined us up with activities we wouldn't have done on our own and found us comfortable places to stay at a reasonable price. Putting our schedules on a daily list including driving times, hotel check in times and activities rewarded us with low stress travel. We would use his services again and I will reccomend him to my sister who plans on visiting New Zealand next year.

Fantastic experience: We wanted to explore as much of New Zealand as we could over a 14 day trip, which would mean tons of logistical planning. After reviewing the many sample itineraries on the First Light Travel website, we paired up with one of their super helpful travel agents. We discussed all of the things we wanted to do and see and she sent us a first draft itinerary soon after. After a couple of changes, we locked in an itinerary and she booked all of our accommodations, rentals, and excursions, all laid out in an easy to follow Day by Day schedule! It was very easy and the in-country experience First Light provides is invaluable. They also kept in contact with us during our travels to update us on weather changes and road closures. I would recommend utilizing First Light for anyone traveling to New Zealand to make the most of your time before and during travel!

Fantastic experience: Our (myself, my wife and my 23-year-old son) experiences during the 12-day vacation in NZ are nothing short of wonderful. The many beautiful and stunning sceneries and landscapes of South Island are truly mesmerising and breathtaking. These experiences were made possible with the customised itinerary (prepared by Taylor, our Travel Advisor of First Light Travel) which is well paced between activities and adventures making it exciting and enjoyable. Fantastic experience: Thanks so much Charlotte for booking our driving holiday in Western Australia. It was fantastic! The accommodations were very good, and having a room booked in advance was so convenient. Europcar provided us with a brand new vehicle which we drove just over 3,000kms in thirteen days. Margaret River Discovery Co tour was fabulous, highly recommend this day out with Sean. We loved the entire trip, made lifetime memories, and had an amazing time.

Fantastic experience: First Light Travel made it so easy to create our perfect month-long honey moon to New Zealand. We worked with Danielle and she made sure that we had the perfect blend of hiking and Lord of the Rings sites to visit. Fantastic experience: My husband and I travelled to New Zealand for our honeymoon in February. Tatyana planned the entire trip from start to finish perfectly! She listened to everything we wanted and made sure the experiences were tailored to us and our needs. We were looking for adventure with a mix of relaxation in between and she absolutely nailed it! Fantastic experience: Taylor from First Light prepared a ten day itinerary around both islands in New Zealand for me and my six year old son. It was phenomenal. The activities were perfect and the scheduling spaced out enough to ensure that he didn't get overwhelmed. She was very responsive and answered all my questions. Once there, everything went smoothly. Fantastic experience: Recently my wife & I took a 11 day car journey from Perth WA to Exmouth WA, which was made possible by the excellent service that Micala Lindsay from First Light Travel did in putting together a fantastic itinerary, culminating in swimming with the WhaleSharks in Exmouth. This has been on our bucket list for sometime. If you are looking for a different experience in Western Australia, this is great & Micala got it 100% right. Fantastic experience: Highest of praise for FirstLight Travel (FLT) an incredible team and Natalie, who put together a truly epic adventure. First, we booked our New Zealand tour in 2019 for travel in 2020. The world had other plans. Throughout the COVID years FLT kept us informed of the situation in NZ and provided good advice about the travelling situation. So when our adventure finally began after 5 years the expectations were high. The expectations were not only met but far exceeded. The 18-day travel adventure was exceptional, every accommodation was flawless every excursion was exceptional! Seriously it was that good, we would go to sleep every night saying Wow it cannot get any better and then a new day would dawn and it was. A few of the highpoints were Essence of Waiheke Wine Tour on our first full day, perfect introduction after 30 plus hours of travelling, fresh sea air wonderful wines and lovely vineyards such a great kickoff. While I could list everything we did I’ll just hit a few not to miss activities – North Island the Kiwidundee tour was a lot of fun and informative with a thoughtful and knowledgeable guide, The Church – Hahei wonderful peaceful and a magnificent restaurant; Waimangu Volcanic Valley: Waimangu Thermal Reserve Self Guided Walk and Boat Cruise probably one of my favorites on the north island a beautiful park and spectacular and easy hike. The cultural experience in Rotorua was really interesting and informative and of course Hobbiton – a blast. The Waitomo Glow Worm Caves: not to be missed – truly an otherworldly experience. For the South Island the train from Christchurch to Greymouth was epic and not to be missed followed on by the drive down to Frans Joesph Glacier a stay at Glenfern Villa wonderful views and an unbelievable Milky Way – wow. Penguin viewing was a lot fun as was a few day respite to explore Queenstown. Truly everything on this tour was spectacular and so much fun highest of praise to FLT for putting this trip together.

Fantastic experience: I highly recommend the team at First Light Travel. A friend and I recently spent 2 weeks in NZ, the whole trip was organised and booked by Nicole from First Light. Everything ran smoothly, the accommodation was good and all the activities were great. They dealt with all our questions and a few requested changes to the itinerary promptly and courteously.

Fantastic experience: My husband and I planned to take a one month driving holiday in New Zealand as we had done in 2019 in Australia and luckily my earliest internet search found First Light Travel’s site. I had done all the investigation, planning and booking on the internet myself for our Australia vacation. It was incredibly time consuming and resulted in a trip which was not nearly as educational, nor exciting as the New Zealand trip First Light Travel created for us. We spent some time on the phone with Anna Caudle to find out what was available and to give her an idea of what we were looking for. Within a few days she provided us with a fully outlined and costed trip plan. The plan was significantly more detailed and vastly superior to the one I had developed for Australia. Over the next short while we spoke with Anna on the phone a couple more times which enabled her to really personalize it to our dream trip and we decided Version 3 was the one. When we arrived in Auckland she had a driver waiting at the airport to pick us up and from that point on every day was enjoyable and we never had to feel uneasy about where we should be or how to get there. With the number of activities planned it was inevitable that a couple ended up being cancelled and whenever there was an issue First Light answered the phone and resolved it quickly. At the end of the trip they refunded the cost of the couple of cancelled activities. One of the earliest activities was a visit to the Kauri museum and neither of us had any knowledge about Kauri but we spent a fascinating few hours learning about this amazing period of New Zealand history. The rest of the trip provided many more educational opportunities and we enjoyed every moment of every day. Anna’s experience curating the trip showed over and over again. An example was when we did a half day bike ride from Arrowtown to the Gibbston Wine Valley along the river valley and over the historic Kawarau Bungy Bridge (the place where bungy jumping was invented). The path we rode about 20 Km on had many hills and would not have been enjoyable but for Anna arranging for our bikes to be electrically assisted. A very nice surprise! In summary, unlike our Australia trip we did not have to spend countless hours doing research and booking accommodations and activities and transportation. First Light’s trip was far more interesting and enjoyable than what we would have booked. We had the comfort of having First Light available to assist us if we experienced any issues. I am convinced that we would not have saved money if we had booked it ourselves on the internet. I believe that First Light’s professional relationships in the travel industry provide them with lower prices than a consumer can obtain on their own. As well, we found that the service providers gave us “frequent flyer” style service. When we checked in we always stated that we were there as First Light had booked it and they always appeared to treat us in a way that would be positively conveyed by us to First Light. We rate our First Light trip to be 11 on a scale of 1 to 10!

Fantastic experience: First Light Travel were absolutely 1st rate. Our trip advisor Jaydene worked with us to plan our perfect bucket list trip(we did about 4 adjustments before coming up with our perfect trip). All of our transfers, excursions, experiences, hotels and flights were perfect. Very glad that we used First Light. Will definitely use them if we travel to anywhere they provide services.

Fantastic experience: Just home from an epic trip - 28-day self-driving tour of New Zealand. Followed by 13 days in Australia. We loved it all (especially New Zealand's south island). I booked the New Zealand portion through First Light Travel who were wonderful to work with. Nicole Keuk, our agent, helped us choose just the right mix of activities and free time, car rentals, and accommodation. Every aspect of our itinerary unfolded super smoothly. I can highly recommend them if you plan a trip down under.

Fantastic experience: Our itinerary was thoughtfully planned by First Light Travel Designer Taylor Nguyen based on our travel preference, the amount of time we had and the places we desired to cover. Even though we only had 11 days in NZ, it didn’t feel rushed. All the connections and pick up worked like clock work. We enjoyed the Hobbiton tour, the hike at Mt Cook, the plane ride over Milford Sound. It was a pity we didn’t get to do the helicopter ride through Franz Josef glaciers due to bad weather. Otherwise the whole trip would have felt more complete. Part of the itinerary allowed us to self drive, which we appreciated as we could take in the sights at our own time. If only the rental car was in a better condition. All in all, we would recommend First Light Travel to any traveller who seeks free and easy but not random and not having to sweat the planning.

Fantastic experience: We booked a special 70th birthday trip in March and worked with Anna- she was very professional and was very quick to respond to the many questions that we had. The tours were exceptional, the country beautiful and we enjoyed ourselves very much. Fantastic experience: We booked our New Zealand and Australia adventure with First Light and Danielle. We could not be more pleased. She arranged all as we wanted, not a worry in the sky. While travelling a severe weather event stopped us from reaching one of our destinations. Ahead of that, we were contacted, and offered an alternative by Katerina. We wanted to do something different which she arranged while we flew from North to South island. When we landed, we had a revised car location pick up, a new transfer voucher, and a new hotel booking. No worries no stress. I can highly recommend them!

Fantastic experience: Memorable family trip to New Zealand My husband and I and our two teens just returned from a wonderful 2.5 week Self Drive trip to both the North and South Islands of New Zealand! Communication with First Light Travel and their Travel Designers was top notch right from the start. From the initial phone conversation to the many emails back and forth with itinerary adjustments it almost seemed to good to be true - that someone else was handling all of the details of our trip and all I had to do was show up in New Zealand! I'm glad I took that chance as it truly was the case. First Light took care of our airport transfer, car rental, accommodations and most of our activities. The majority of the accommodations that we stay at were perfect for our family and the cars that we rented were fuel efficient and comfortable. The highlight for my family in the North Island was Hobbiton and the Milford Sound Coach and Cruise from Queenstown was our South Island highlight. Gina's quick responses during our planning process and even when we were running late to check in for an activity were much appreciated. I highly recommend this company to anyone planning a trip to NZ. Thanks again First Light!

The rest of the staff was also very helpful and when our ferry crossing was cancelled they were on top of it and booked an earlier one, ensuring the driver came to pick us up on time. So, we ended up with nothing going wrong for the entire time! Awesome!

Fantastic experience: My wife and I traveled in March 2024 for over three weeks to New Zealand on a trip organized by Anna at First Light Travel. The trip planning was a great mixture of activities, sightseeing time, touring throughout the country, very nice accommodations, and great service. First Light handed every detail from car rentals, accommodations, activities such as wine tastings, boat and sailing trips, and LOTR tours. Every single thing on our itinerary was well planned and communicated, and First Light also gave great suggestions on driving times, things to do, and quaint out of the way places. They even sent us an email during the trip advising us of road construction and to plan our drive time accordingly. They also recommended two cities (Hanmer Springs and Kaikoura) that we would not have planned to visit that we absolutely loved. We have shared our great experience with others and plan to use First Light when we plan a 2025 trip to Australia. First Light was always prompt and courteous with their responses, and really helped me to think through everything we needed for our trip. Thank you Anna and the entire First Light team for a wonderful vacation!

Fantastic experience: Gina and the team at First Light Travel took care of all the details for our 30 day self drive vacation and made our "retirement trip" a pure joy. She took our wish list of activities, locations, and budget and devised an itinerary to meet those requirements. The accommodations were a mix of unique, charming, and spectacular- most of them I would never have found on my own internet search. The daily itinerary we received was detailed and thorough - right down to expected drive times, hotel check-in times, things to do in that area, and contact numbers for every activity we had planned. 30 days and we STILL were not ready to leave this amazing country! We can't recommend First Light Travel enough.

Fantastic experience: First Light Travel, specifically Tatyana, made our New Zealand vacation fabulous. We had drivers and tours provided for us on the North Island and picked up a car on the South Island to get from location to location and had an assortment of tours provided at different destinations. We only had 11 nights to see this magnificent country. We started in Auckland with time on our own to explore. Three nights was more time than we needed. Fable Hotel is located too close to a very noisy night club. Loud music until 3 and 4 AM just outside our window. Our tours could have begun on day 2 and headed out on day 3. We were completely surprised at our fun and admiration for Hobbiton! Our accommodation at On the Point Lake Rotorua was tremendous! Beautiful, relaxing and very nice people there. Tatyana scheduled two awesome activities in Rotorua for us. The Polynesian Spa was authentic and relaxing and the Maori Te Puia experience was informative and entertaining. We could have used that extra night we had in Auckland to see one more location on the North Island, but we moved on by air to Christchurch next to get our rental car. We drove to the majestic Mount Cook. Our room at the Hermitage was breathtaking!! Big wall sized window looking out at Mount Cook. With limited time and on a schedule there was nothing else to do there, for us. Drove to Queenstown the next day, best city in New Zealand in our opinion. Fabulous Queenstown Park Boutique Hotel. Great location, wonderful amenities, genuinely nice and friendly staff. Spent three nights. It was perfect for our Bicycle wine tour and our trip to Milford Sound, each arranged by Tatyana. On to Frans Josef. The drive was the best part of that portion. Twisting up and down the mountains through the rainforest was great! The resort was fine. Food was great. Next we drove back to Christchurch for our final night at The George. Great hotel. Very nice staff working at the front desk. Beautiful country! Super nice people! We love the way the Māori culture is preserved in this remarkable country. Thank you to First Light Travel and Tatyana for providing a superb itinerary for us.

Fantastic experience: We had an amazing trip through the South Island over 14 days. Micala Lindsay of First Light Travel was an amazing organiser and everything was planned perfectly and went smoothly without any issues or hassles. The team at First Light listen to what you want and the outcome is fantastic and meets your budget. All in all I can highly recommend First Light to book a great holiday, thank you.

Fantastic experience: Gina at First Light Travel did a great job planning our trip. Most everything was easy, itinerary was well planned out. We wanted to see a lot within a two week period and that we did! Our trip was based around seeing LOTR sites and I have to say it’s a great way to see New Zealand. Especially nice was the Hobbiton tour and dinner, the Tongariro Crossing trek, Weta Workshop, and I could go on and on. If I could change anything it would be that I wish we had one day where we could just do whatever, no driving or tours, maybe an extra day in Queenstown as there’s so much to do there, but we only had so much time so now we will know for next time. Also would have been nice our first driving day to not to have to Uber back to the airport from Auckland as we did see a rental car place right near the hotel. Accommodations were nice and Gina booked multiple rooms each time as we are a family of five adults, so having our own space was nice. Especially loved the QT Museum Hotel in Wellington, the Swiss-Belsuites in Auckland and the Kinross Cottages outside of Queenstown. Until next time NZ and First Light!

Fantastic experience: Karen and I loved our trip to New Zealand. The country is exceptionally beautiful and unspoiled. The New Zealanders are the best; extremely nice and always helpful. Anna Caudle and the team at First Light Travel did a wonderful job helping us plan the perfect itinerary and arranging all the details. We did the self-driving tour with lots of hiking, and appreciated the chance to go at our own pace and explore on our own. Te Anau, Kinlock, and Wanaka were our favorite stops on the South Island. Mount Cook was spectacular and we wish we had more time and better weather while there. All-in-all, it was a wonder time and we're looking forward to visiting New Zealand again. Karen and I give Anna and First Light Travel our highest recommendation for their expertise and superb level of service and support.

Fantastic experience: We had an amazing and unforgettable experience in New Zealand thanks to the First Light Travel team led by Bernadette Biggelaar!   They were flexible with our changing needs.  We really enjoyed the accommodations and decor at the Scenic Suites Queenstown which was like staying in a trendy condominium.  The trip to Hobbiton with the buffet was magical!  We stayed a few nights at Rydges Rotorua and the staff was warm and friendly.  The Maori show in Rotorua was fantastic!  It was lucky that they reserved the punting on the river experience in Christchurch otherwise we would be disappointed like the other tourists who did not reserve beforehand.  The excursion to Mt. Cook glaciers was cancelled but we can understand that it was due to weather.  When we had an issue with not being able to use our Queenstown gondola tickets on the appointed day, then your staff person on call was helpful and they are able to refund us for our self-bought tickets.  I think the only room for improvement is to remind us that laundries in the hotels are quite common and accessible in New Zealand, so that we don't need to pack so much luggage.  I would definitely use this travel agency again to book in future.

Returning from a 21 day trip of a lifetime to New Zealand over December it was very clear we could not have done it all without First Light Travel and the amazing Danielle! Having never used a company before Danielle was absolutely fantastic from day one when we contacted her to help organise a big family trip across NZ, giving her very little to go on. Danielle was patient and accommodated all of our changes and requests, and we are so grateful for all the help. The trip ran smoothly with not a single hiccup on bookings, hotels, cars or activities. Fantastic experience: We had SUCH A FABULOUS TIME in New Zealand on a two week self-drive tour of the north and south islands planned by First Light Travel. Everyday, I wish I was still there! The scenery is beautiful and the people are so kind. I think we would all agree that the highlight of our trip was Hahei. The accommodation was perfectly located, and everything was beautiful. Te Puia in Rotorua and the view from Rock Retreat near Waitomo were also top of the list. The kids really liked the Kiwi Hatchery tour in Rotorua. We were also always in walking distance to really awesome playgrounds! My mom loved the farm tour and watching parachuters from the deck in Queenstown. As I go back through my pictures, it's hard to just hit the highlights because there were so many. We followed a lot of the suggestions in the itinerary for other things to do - like visiting Mt. Cook and Hot Water Beach. We felt like we had enough activity to always have something fun to do or look forward to, but also had enough downtime to relax and find our own adventures. I can't speak highly enough of our experience. I thought we were going to get to day 10-11 and just be ready to go home, but I could have happily stayed longer. We did not need a lot of support while we were in-country, but one of the tour operators changed a tour time. I got a phone call and email from First Light with the change details as soon as they knew.

Fantastic experience: We made a last minute decision to travel to NZ north Island for Christmas 2023. Fight Light Travel were amazing in tailoring an itinerary to suit our timetable and specific interests and recommended places to visit based on our specific interests at such short notice. Fantastic experience: Wonderful trip to New Zealand We’re just back (Dec 2023) from a trip that included a three week self-drive, mostly through New Zealand’s South Island, organized by First Light Travel. For many years, while travelling the world, we’ve wanted to explore New Zealand. And we couldn’t be more pleased with the results from First Light, especially Danielle, our travel advisor there. In fact, they exceeded our expectations! It was a perfect trip for we 70-year-olds to celebrate our 45th anniversary. Danielle began our interaction by asking what we enjoy, activity-wise, and what type of accommodations we prefer. So, right out-of-the-gate, this was clearly going in the direction we wanted: a trip customized to our wishes, and not a cookie-cutter itinerary or a check-list of activities. Danielle is a great listener, very patient, is easy to get ahold of, and a joy to work with. A draft plan was created from that first conference call (which was the response to our emailed contact point). We reviewed it, changed some of our wishes, partly from the great alternatives tabled for us to consider and the opportunity to do more specific research. We started our planning over a year in advance, so this allowed this itinerary to evolve over time and the subsequent calls we had. The final itinerary was very detailed, including contact phone numbers and vouchers for each activity and hotel. Since many of the activities that we chose were weather-dependent, such as boat trips, a hot air balloon ride, and a helicopter trip, we needed to call and confirm beforehand. One of those numbers went to a recorded message indicating it was out of service. So I simply called First Light Travel’s emergency line and they took care of it for me in a matter of a few minutes. We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our trip. The drive, the scenery and activities were wonderful. Yes, weather affected two of our excursions, but First Light tracked these and issued a refund for the missed ones within a week of the completion of our trip. And it was fun to run into another Canadian couple, at the Clay Cliffs, whose trip had also been arranged by Danielle.

Fantastic experience: One year ago we had an amazing family trip organized by First Light Travel and specially Natalie. The trip was tailored to our needs and we left room for extra, in case we would find something there (which we did, as getting on top of the Franz Joseph Glacier in helicopter) the service provided by Natalie was absolutely fantastic, and very careful. Fantastic experience: When we started to look for a company to plan our travel to NZ, we were concerned that we would inadvertently find a fly by night company and commit hard earned dollars that would disappear. First Light had great reviews but we also knew that you can pay for people to write false reviews online. It also seemed like all 5-star reviews were a bit suspect. We took a chance and reached out and talked with Anna. Anna was quick to respond and listened to what we were looking for and sent us a few agendas for us to review. We worked together over time to make it just right. Once we got to town, we had a few self-created glitches and Anna was quick to reply and help out. We had a great time and First Light Travel was completely legit. We would recommend highly.

Fantastic experience: Nicole is our personalized planner for the trip. We did not self - drive , instead Nicole helps us planned for bus rides timings, activities to do in every state we visited. The journey was quite smooth sailing . Even when there are some hiccups, we call First Light Travel on the spot, they helped us resolved the problems immediately. Fantastic experience: This was always going to be the holiday of a lifetime and so we wanted it to be perfect. We asked Gina O'Neill to create a 16 day tour of New Zealand's South Island for us. We were happy to drive but wanted to be sure we didn't miss any of the main attractions and wanted a little bit of luxury along the way. Gina did a fantastic job. Our holiday was perfect and the memories will be with us forever. Everything went smoothly from picking up the car, booking into the hotels and arriving for the excursions. It was totally seamless. The highlight was our 2 nights in Mount Cook. The hotel was fabulous and the view from our hotel room was picture perfect. Fantastic experience: Booked a boys south island hunting trip with first light travel which ended up being the best trip ever. Over four days we explore Duville and Stephen Island based from a 22 meter boat where we covered pig hunting, deer hunting, deep sea fishing and diving. I've never eaten so much crayfish groper and cod in my life. The boat had a 10 meter fishing deck with plenty of room but the best bit was captain Shane and Khan who were unbelievably knowledgeable and went out and beyond to show us a time in a life time. A true southern experience. Thanks Shane and Khan legends.

Fantastic experience: We called First Light because a friend had used their services in 2018. We are so glad we did. Michelle Srzich handled all the details of a 26 day trek across both South and North Islands of New Zealand. We stayed in first class accommodations, had wonderful excursions and quite an adventure. And...when our airlines canceled our flight home, First Light was right there to send a driver back to Auckland Airport and secure us a hotel room for two more nights! She was able to craft a perfect itinerary of relaxation and adventure for our anniversary trip to the South Island, specifically Queenstown and Wanaka. We visited Milford Sound, did a jetboat tour of the Matukituki River, a wilderness walk and a 4WD safari. My husband also had some fishing excursions! Fantastic experience: We (an older couple) planned a wonderful four-week trip through New Zealand together with the Travel Designers from First Light Travel. There were 16 different accommodations, two different rental cars, a ferry, three tours, and four limousine driver pickups to book. Everything went perfectly, the hotels met the desired and expected standard, some even exceeded our expectations. Although we had great weather, it wasn't thanks to First Light Travel, but the trip was absolutely fantastic, for sure! One booked tour could not take place, but we were informed in time and the refund via credit card also worked within days. We visited Launceston, Cradle Mountain, Freycinet National Park, Port Arthur and Hobart. Fantastic experience: After 3 years of 'pandemic hibernation,' my family of 5 urbanites wanted a self-drive holiday in NZ that must carry a few "not's" - not hectic, not too many places to 'tick,' not too long a drive in any one leg (as my energy levels are not that great these days), not too much of the commercial concrete jungle, ... We broadcast our needs to a few travel planners and they came back with proposals of a lower cost. BUT First Light also responded quickly and addressed our needs most desirably. We find that First Light profiled us most accurately and is worth a go. Yes, First Light stood out amongst equals. Ms Hunapo Marcella was wonderful, empathetic, assuring and is very patient with us though we made multiple adjustments to the itinerary prior to the trip. Even during the trip, she remained responsive and addressed all our needs! The selection of activities she offered us fits our desires snugly - hot air balloon, Hobbiton, geyser, transalpine train ride, whale watching, 1.1km zipline, and a remarkable "retreat" to celebrate Christmas at Mt Cook! Indeed, First Light is a top grade travel planner and is well worth the money spent!!

Fantastic experience: We just returned from a spectacular 5 week self drive holiday in New Zealand organised by First Light. We were very impressed by the itinerary planning process and the close attention paid to our interests and what we most wanted to do. The accommodation booked was first rate and really responded to our desire for self-catering accommodation as much as possible. We enjoyed a variety of wine tours and nature excursions that were recommended. We were also well taken care of by Nicole both just before and during our trip as there were a few issues to be addressed due to the cyclone damage on the North Island. Nicole rerouted us away from the damaged areas and also managed to get us a new ferry booking from Picton to Wellington when our booking was cancelled due to mechanical issues. All in all, we would highly recommend First Light if you are looking for a fantastic travel experience.

As a concierge service, FLT took care of all the nuisance details that can become such a distraction when handled personally. FLT service associates are available 24/7 and are there to solve any problem that may occur, regardless of the time of day. The suggestions regarding accommodations, restaurants and activities were all excellent and within the budget parameters established prior to the trip. I would highly recommend your considering First Light Travel to assist you with your journey through New Zealand.

Positive experience: We had a somewhat disappointing experience working with First Light on a trip to Australia and New Zealand. Perhaps it was related to Covid, but the agency seemed chronically understaffed and their agents, while friendly, were not responsive in a timely way. The first agent disappeared at one point (apparently because of illness) and was replaced by another, who was not much more responsive. It took several days (or more) to get answers to emails; there were mistakes on itineraries that took a long time to get corrected. We were hoping they would have substantial recommendations on activities in Australia and New Zealand, but they didn't offer much we hadn't found in a basic online search. The hotel they chose in Cairns was excellent and right on the mark, but the one in Rotorua, NZ, turned out to be considerably beneath the standards we had requested. Ultimately it was useful to have them put everything together for us and to arrange private airport transportation, and we appreciated the fact that they do not charge fees to travelers (which perhaps was part of the service problem), but all things considered we would not use them again.

We contacted First Light Travel (FLT) and spoke to Travel Designer, Mikaela Pole in mid January of 2023. I initially reviewed all of FLT’s itineraries and shaped our own. Mikaela went with our Itinerary and arranged our car rental, all our accommodations and several tours. She made suggestions which were quite helpful. Fantastic experience: Well-planned by Tatyana! Was value for money too, given that they tailored the trip to our requirements. Love the recommendations of Strahan - Risby cove. Really a quiet place in the middle of nowhere. Just the 99 bends almost took my breath away. Cradle Mountain hotel was another great accommodation booked. Wombats galore! Would skip Launceston Grand Chancellor and Tall Timbers if I were to do the trip again. And perhaps stay at Swinging Gate in tamar valley instead. The Penicott wildlife tour (part of the package) was yet another highlight of our trip. We saw dolphins! Bucket list checked! Would have loved to spend more nights in each place cos the drive was really long to get around.

Fantastic experience: Danielle and the whole team at First Light Travel made our month long trek across both islands an enjoyable and well -planned trip. We were there during the 30 year Cyclone and even with the challenges that arose our trip was wonderful. I highly recommend using a travel agent and especially this company on a first visit to NZ. When our phones would only email (not call or text) the whole team worked to get our issues fixed: One issue was we were running late for Hobbiton (the evening tour and dinner). We had gotten ourselves lost and with little gas (always fill up on half tank if driving a lot and when it's available!). Even through our spotty internet/email First Light was able to connect with Hobbiton and when we rolled in 2 minutes past bus departure, there was a staffer ready with our tickets and ushering onto the bus, and not with a scowl, but a welcome! They knew all about our mishaps with the map/gas/travel and showed lots of grace, thanks to communication with First Light. We will use First Light again and could not be happier we did with this first trip to beautiful NZ.
