Fantastic experience: Really helpful, bought Japan Rail regional passes, they were very thorough making sure all the details were correct even spoke with them on the phone. You might save a couple of dollars by buying on internet from a major booking company but if you have to contact them good luck with that. So you speak with someone that's actually in NZ

Positive experience: The staff were very friendly, helpful and professional BUT I expected the staff to be a bit better versed in English - after all, it is Japan Railway's Auckland agency, else I would have been then 5 stars. The other thing, nothing to do with the JTB itself but more to do with JR Pass. It's beyond belief that one gets a paper ticket that has to go thru ticket machines numerous times, yet if anything happens to that ticket (worth hundreds of dollars) there is no refund/replacement/recourse. One gets so nervous every time when feeding it thru the ticket machine. One would expect a high tech country like Japan would have better way.
