Black Abyss Tour

Fantastic experience: If i could give more stars I would! Such a fantastic day. Guides Aaron & Bec were superstars - I wish I had half of their energy. They kept us all feeling safe while making sure we had an amazing experience. Getting into the wet suits is possibly the hardest part of the day! Once kitted up, we got on the mini bus to head out to the start of our adventure. A quick lesson on how to manage the equipment for the abseil, and then we were off down a 35m hole into the cave. Ziplining, jumping off a wall into the water to move through the river in the cave, then floating quietly through whilst gazing up at the spectacular glowoworms.... there was never a boring moment. Hot drinks and snacks in the cave provided a nice little break before moving on to the next part of the adventure. Yes, the water was a bit chilly, but the guides are aware and help with tips to keep warm (NOT by peeing in your wetsuit!). You do need a bit of fitness, but we're in our early 50s and managed fine. It also helps when you have a fantastic group of people from all over the world to share the experience with. A hot shower and warm soup at the end finished the day perfectly. If you're worried about the price... it's worth every cent for a once in a lifetime experience!

Fantastic experience: The most amazing caving experience!! Our guides Sian and Ollie were the best and making sure we were safe but still getting out of our comfort zone I highly recommend if you’re able to!

Fantastic experience: That was the most amazing thing I've ever done! Caving is so much fun - especially where it’s wet. Rappelling down a vertical rope, wading through underground streams, swimming and floating. Often also intentionally without any light, so you can see the little light spots. We were down there for about 3 hours. It gets tight, sometimes so low that you crawl on all fours, you climb, sometimes even upstream against the current, and you jump down a small waterfall... it gets cold after 3 hours at 14 degrees (despite wearing a wetsuit). My tip: bring diving gloves for warmth and to protect your fingers while climbing in the caves. The equipment was otherwise good. We had 2 funny and competent guides with 7 participants. You underestimate the combined effect of adrenaline, effort, and cold - a certain level of fitness, strength, and resilience is definitely helpful. But it’s just ultra-cool!

Fantastic experience: Favorite activity in New Zealand. The guides were amazing and funny. The entire experience was just amazing. Highly recommend doing this! We did the 5 hour tour and would love to do it again.

Fantastic experience: This is a MUST DO when you’re in New Zealand! It was the most memorable and fun 5 hour adventure through the Waitamo glowworm cave. The glowworms is like watching bazillion of stars lit up in the sky at night. We had the best guide EVER! Her name is Callie and shes the best. She made me feel so comfortable and safe throughout all the repelling, zip lining, and tubing. She is so lively, positive, talent in photo taking, high in life and loves what she does. I’ll only come back if shes my guide again. Very lucky to have her. Also It was COLD when you hit the water but if you keep moving you’ll warm up. They have hot coco and cookies and chocolate and hot tea breaks also pee breaks too lol. Its a once in a lifetime thing to do and ill do it again when I come back to visit New Zealand again. :)

Fantastic experience: The Waitomo black water abyss tour was absolutely spectacular and a “must do” for those with a high degree of adventurous spirit and physical fitness ability as it’s a very active 5 hours. The guides were fantastic. Funny, supportive, knowledgeable, and friendly. We started with a lesson on abseiling and then headed down into the cave. The adventure through the cave was amazing. Seeing the glow worms in action but I will say the water is cold! Literally took my breath away when I jumped in. Say “yes” to the fleece. Brrrr. The highlight of the tour for me was the expedition out of the cave up through the waterfalls. Felt like I was Indiana Jones. If I could change one thing it would be the snacks. I love the idea of the hot chocolate and chocolate treats but I was already so thirsty and that made me even thirstier. Overall an amazing experience that we will never forget!

Fantastic experience: Do it! :D I was really nervous for this tour, but it was absolutely fantastic! The guides were lovely and very supportive around the bit I found stressful (abseiling, my nemesis). The glow worms are beautiful, the zipline part is especially fun, and it was overall just a great time! No tight squeezes and no sections where you need to hold your breath. Water is COLD but the wetsuit works wonders and they served us hot drinks twice as we went. 10/10 would do again (even if I had to redo the abseiling)

Fantastic experience: If you have any interest in exploration and adventure, do this. Manages to combine discovery and fun with relaxing and contemplation all in excellent safety. Can't recommend enough.

Fantastic experience: The team here are great! This trip itself is awesome. if you like adrenaline, adventure or challenging yourself physically then this is the trip for you. We did the black abyss 5hr tour and had an absolute blast! It didn't feel too long, and nothing was forced on you. great level of challenge. And let me just express how great the guides were. I work professionally in the industry as an assessor in outdoor recreation. And to see these guys working I was extremely impressed. all 3 of our guides were able to have the perfect balance of fun, risk management and professionalism. I would happily take those guides again, they were some of the best outdoor guides around.

Fantastic experience: Matty and ciarne were the funniest couple of guides we could have hoped for. The full tour is not for the feint of hearted getting out. If you love a good adventure and to push your limits. This is a must do experience and easily my favourite so far
