Fantastic experience: I came in the site and was welcomed by keri and was impressed the wonderful service she provided. The knowledge of not only her area but of other areas was of great value. I will come back to the site and whanganui.
Fantastic experience: Actually the visit was to mud ducks and the service here is just excellent. The coffee is pretty good as well as the food.
Kia Ora Tim, thanks for your review. I'm sure Mud Ducks Cafe would really love it if you could put your review and rating on their own Google business listing - but we will pass the message on for you ;)
Fantastic experience: Awesome helpful friendly staff...
Fantastic experience: Best info center I ever visited. Molly was exceptionally kind and provided amazing tips. Strongly recommend
Fantastic experience: We have met Molly over here who is absolutwly lovely and shared with us the highlights of Whanganui
Positive experience: Normal regular info center
Fantastic experience: Helpful staff and useful resources ℹ️
Negative experience: Friendly staff...but sat looking intently on their computer screens (2 staff) without asking if I needed any help....and on was on Teo crutches...got my young son to reach 4 merchandise-bcos the staff too-busy on YouTube or FB ??
Kia ora Catherine. So sorry to hear that it wasn't a good experience for you at our isite! I can assure that our staff were not on social media, they were completing our new compulsory isite training videos which require headphones and audio listening. It is regretful that they did initially miss that you were requiring some help, and I am glad that their subsequent interactions with you were friendly. We're happy to welcome you and your son back anytime. Ngā mihi nui.
Fantastic experience: Molly was fabulous giving us plenty of sites to visit and dine in both Whanganui and Wellington. Thanks from the Aussies
Fantastic experience: We came in with no plans and left with a full weekend planned out! The i-SITE system is a national treasure and the Whanganui centre was particularly helpful today. Thanks again Molly and team ☺️
Fantastic experience: Staff shared so much information
Fantastic experience: Very informative and helpful staff. Also at a perfect location. Thanks to Molly for the countless great ideas she gave me for my stay in Whanganui. Very glad I walked in.
Fantastic experience: Great place with knowledgeable staff and a few very interesting exhibits. Have got directions from here a few times in the past and they have been a useful bunch
Ngā mihi Matthew, happy to help you with directions and info any time!
Fantastic experience: Friendly people and welcoming. Heaps of knowledge about the area and taking as much time with you as needed to help.
Thank you Melford - we pride ourselves on accurate and up to date information, with a smile of course.
Fantastic experience: Walked in here and was instantly informed and regaled by Molly, a very friendly and enthusiastic ambassador for Whanganui, which she clearly loves. Highly recommend dropping in here as you just don’t get the personal touch and wealth of experience of someone like Molly, and this centre, from Google alone.
Thank you for your review and kind words Bruce, we appreciate the support!
Fantastic experience: Helpful as always
Positive experience: Some great things to visit in Whanganui. Recommend the glass blowers
Fantastic experience: So pleased we visited the iSite. The very pleasant Molly gave us excellent information & recommendations, allowing us to get the most from our time in Whanganui. (We enjoyed the honey cured salmon too Molly.) Great the site is centrally located, so easy to find or stumble across.
Fantastic experience: Exceptionally helpful and friendly staff providing vital assistance for us passing through on our bikes. We got some great cultural insight as well. We very much enjoyed our stop. Thanks for the info!
Fantastic experience: These ladys were SUCH a great source of information, that we decided to stay one day longer, because there are so many things to see and do! Thank you so much.
Fantastic experience: Nice space, Keri was amazing! And so informative!
Positive experience: Neat cafe alongside with prompt service.
Fantastic experience: I have recently moved to the area and the isite has been such a gem. I was served by Molly who was so warm and friendly and an absolute wealth of knowledge.
Thank you, Emma, love to see you back any time!
Fantastic experience: The Whanganui isite is centrally located in a lovely spot right by the river & with free parking right outside. I initially used the isite to store my bag while I went for my hire car & Debbie could not have been lovelier. She was so warm & helpful & advised me of some “must do’s” while in the area. The best recommendation was the Bridge to Nowhere tour with Whanganui River Adventures - definitely a highlight! However the Durie Hill elevator is also great fun for only $2 and again the people that work there are so friendly & knowledgable. I returned to the isite a week later & again saw Debbie who helped me while I waited for the bus (the isite can help search & book the bus routes for you). There is also a free wifi lounge which you can use while waiting & a cafe in the isite. Highly recommend popping in if you’re in the area as even if you don’t need the facilities (free toilets too!) they provide, the staff are amazing & can share a wealth of knowledge.
Thank you so much Lisa for your kind words about our isite. We pride ourselves on the ability to problem solve for our customers, and Debbie is certainly a gem! As you mentioned, the location of our isite really is perfect for the benefit of Whanganui’s visitors.
Positive experience: Great service and advice
Fantastic experience: Many opportunities to get to know the city. Also a nice shop.
Thank you Dorothy, it was our pleasure to help you.
Fantastic experience: Great service, very good info about Whanganui , brilliant asset for the city. Perfect position with cafe, galleries, buses and beautiful river right there. Parking and short stroll to city .
Thank you Jill. We hope to see you again sometime soon!
Fantastic experience: I wish to thank the i site in Whanganui. Two years ago the staff tried to quickly organise a Mail van trip up the Whanganui River for us. Although it was booked out their enthusiasm bought me back two years later and I was able to do the trip today. The trip with Tracy lived up to and indeed exceeded my expectations. Tracy is a wonderful ambassador for this part of the country and the i site enabled me to discover this area and will certainly bring me back. Thanks again for your professionalism i site Whanganui.
Kia Ora Jim and Paula. We're so glad you finally got the opportunity to experience our wonderful River Road with Tracy. It is important to us that we connect visitors (like yourselves) to passionate small business operators - whom might otherwise not have found each other. It's always so wonderful to hear stories like yours, and that we played a part in it!
Fantastic experience: Such an incredible resource for our community in the perfect location! The team always go above and beyond every-time and I couldn’t be more thankful for their ongoing support. You don’t just have to be a visitor to value this service, as a local I couldn't think of life without them. In the heart of Whanganui, capturing incidental foot traffic via the bus terminal and Saturday markets and purposeful foot traffic for their incredible knowledge and experience.
Fantastic experience: Amazing service by Molly and Billie and the rest of the team every time I walk in here, they are so incredibly valuable to our community. The team at the Whanganui iSite have such deep extensive knowledge of Whanganui and the surrounding area, and the events happening within the area. The iSite is home to many Aotearoa artists' work and products, my business would not be able to survive without places like this.
Fantastic experience: Molly provided impeccable service by guiding me to various resources and services that my business needed. Absolutely lovely people.
Fantastic experience: Dry helpful
Fantastic experience: The team here were super helpful and had so much great local knowledge. Was very busy, and they were taking the time to give help to everyone who needed it. i-sites are just the best and such a quintessential part of NZ towns. As an expat returning home for an extended holiday to reconnect with NZ I so appreciate the i-site network.
Thank you so much Bryher, the team at isite Whanganui really appreciate your support and kind words. I will pass your comments along to the rest of the isite network too. Nga mihi,
Fantastic experience: Good facilities for a quick stop
Fantastic experience: We staffed, clean and open premises. Rich in Whanganuis history but also geographical information of the region. Close to the intercity bus stop and a restored Tram. Close to the main street of the City. And the local Mall ( Trafalgar Square).
Kia ora Jim, thanks for your review. Our location is certainly a bonus for visiting out of towners, and those catching the Intercity bus. We look forward to seeing you again!
Fantastic experience: Got what I wanted, no fuss, no muss
Fantastic experience: Clean tidy conveniences.
Fantastic experience: Great staff --a credit to the employing council Very helpful and a pleasure to meet and converse with Possibly one of the top I sites in the country
Thank you John, we appreciate your business, and your kind words.
Fantastic experience: Very informative
Positive experience: Nice space and knowledge for the area, WiFi as well
Fantastic experience: Situated conveniently right beside the river (that has a riverside board walk for cycling & walking on, plenty of seating, recycling rubbish containers & even a drinking water station. Really helpful staff, plenty of pamphlets about various activities & road maps. An awesome to scale 3D model of Taranaki on a large table that you can walk around and visually see distances between places. There are public toilets inside the building and bicycle stands outside. Plenty of free 1hour parking. Mud Ducks café adjoins the Visitor centre.
Kia Ora Margaret, thanks for your review. I just need to make a wee correction, in that our map table is of Whanganui National Park, with the mountains of Tongariro National Park in the upper corner. Unfortunately Mt Taranaki does not feature. But everything else is correct! And we appreciate that you noticed all the wonderful features that our Visitor Centre and location has, to showcase Whanganui to our visitors. Ngā mihi,
Positive experience: A great 3D relief map of the District including the Central Plateau. Plenty of tourist information and gifts available
Thank you David, much appreciated!
Fantastic experience: Lovely friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Very helpful, clean and tidy, wonderful models to view and gifts , coffee shop on site.
Ngā mihi nui Karina, thanks for your review.
Fantastic experience: Excellent! Kerry was super helpful, kind and pleasant.
Fantastic experience: The team at the iSite in Whanganui is amazing! Kevin, Saskia, and especially Keri, are so welcoming and really go above and beyond to make your visit to the Whanganui region special. When we told Keri we wanted to do some things off the beaten path, she found us a bone carving class and a spot to try some local Māori gin. Even if you don’t need trip planning, stop in and see them - they are great!
Fantastic experience: lovely and welcoming staff.
Thank you Nico! We’re happy to have you back anytime :)
Positive experience: Extremely helpful, very helpful staff.
Ngā mihi Brian, thanks for your review!
Negative experience: Recently, i walked into your lovely premises to use the toilet. I walked into the mens toilets only for the cleaning lady to tell me, quite firmly, i wasn't allowed to use the toilet as she was cleaning and that i should go down the street to use the toilet (which i did, but it looked like it was closed). I found her to be a little rude, like she was reprimanding me for even considering to use the toilet. There was NO sign saying i couldn't use the toilet - only a "caution - wet floor" sign. How was I meant to know i couldn't use it? It would not hurt if she was nicer in her approach next time. I strongly suggest you have some sign telling people the toilet cannot be used whilst it is being cleaned if it saves someone else from having their heads bitten off by this lady next time. I'll probably never use these toilet facilities (by far the nicest in town) again :(.
Kia Ora. Thank you for your kind words about the facility, and it’s disappointing you didn’t have a happy experience. It would be really helpful to us if you directed your feedback and review to the Whanganui District Council listing instead, since Whanganui isite is one tenant of the building, and we have no influence/management over the toilets cleaning contract. Ngā mihi
Fantastic experience: Really nice and helpfull staff there!
Kia Ora Sebastian, thank you so much for your review!
Fantastic experience: Knowledgeable and helpful people here.
Hi Michael, thanks for your review!
Negative experience: Rude and initially unhelpful. When asked, staff didn't want to unlock the accessibility door to cafe, instead telling me to go down the steps with my dual buggy. Not welcoming.
Kia Ora Lawrence, thank you for your review of our Visitor Information Centre. I can understand how upset you must have been that the cafe staff (of which you are a patron of) were not able to assist you to be comfortable in their cafe, and you had no option but to ask our staff instead. Taking into account that we were busy with our own customers at the time (a Saturday morning), rather than opening a door that is to be used for wheelchair access only, the suggestion was made in good faith to use an alternative entrance. This was based on our prior experience that most cafe customers with buggy's are able to handle the 2 internal steps without any issues. We are sorry that you misunderstood our intentions. To make up for that, I would like to extend an offer that you come back to our Visitor's Centre to use any of the services that we offer, and see for yourself the pride we take in the roles we are trained for. Ngā mihi nui
Fantastic experience: Lovely staff. I was able to drop my luggage off there for a small price. Really helped me out.
Fantastic experience: The best site we have been in. Very helpful staff and very friendly! Thanks team.
Fantastic experience: They helped us with everything we needed and more! It is hard to find such helpfull people nowadays :)
Thank you Thomas - we really appreciate your kind words, and will continue to help our international visitors make their holiday as easy and enjoyable as possible. Ngā mihi nui
Fantastic experience: 5+ stars. Saskia, one of the employees who also spoke Dutch, went above and beyond to help us with our trip. Additionally, a super nice and tidy building with a cozy coffee and lunch spot.
Thank you so much Eline, we hope you and your family are enjoying the rest of your holiday in NZ. Ngā mihi nui
Fantastic experience: Amazing staff who knocked it out of the park with eatery recommendations (Burrows, Yellow House, Frank). Highly recommend stopping in.
Kia Ora Melissa, Thanks for your review, we really appreciate it!
Fantastic experience: Awesome view from the lookout
Fantastic experience: Very helpful staff
Fantastic experience: Heaps of information lovely people behind the counter very helpful thank you so much
Thank you Mike! Much appreciated, and hopefully we’ll see you again.
Negative experience: Stay away from this region. Spend your tourist dollars elsewhere. As the Mayor of Whanganui has requested "look, actually we'd prefer you to stay home"
Kia Ora tatou - this review is not about any service received at the Whanganui i-SITE Visitors Centre, but unfortunately the low rating has a devastating impact on our perceived reputation. As you can see from my response below I have never received a response from the poster, nor have my multiple requests to Google to remove it been responded to either. Please come to the i-SITE whenever you need our services - and judge for yourself. Nga mihi. Hi Michelle. We understand your passion for this topic, however as a business trying to operate during Covid times just like everyone else, a low rating affects our overall achievement in customer service rankings and gives an impression to our potential visitors that they can expect to receive poor service from our business. Since your review is not about the service you have received at the Whanganui i-SITE, but appears rather to be an opinion on our district Mayor's performance - we kindly ask that you remove this rating. Ngā mihi nui

Fantastic experience: Very helpful
Fantastic experience: Awesome helpful
Negative experience: Had a pretty average experience with one of the ladies behind the counter but can’t speak for the rest of the staff/place: Went in to ask about the Whanganui River Journey only to be abruptly told that it closed at the beginning of the month (not true). Then when pressed I got lectured about how cold it is and to figure it out myself. Feel like the condescending attitude isn’t a great trait for someone in an information point.
Kia Ora Harley. I am so sorry to hear about that, and agree that it is not acceptable on our part. Please email me directly if you wish to discuss further - [email protected]. Thanks for your honesty. Nga mihi
Fantastic experience: Debbie was so helpful, managed to book us a last minute spot on a Whanganui river kayak/jet boat tour, gave us great advice about what to take, and had excellent tips about the local cafes and restaurants. Brilliant service with a smile.
